How To Have More Energy Right Now

You’re on your third cup of coffee and it’s only 11 am. You can’t seem to get yourself up and out of bed in the morning.


A lack of energy can completely ruin your day. You can’t focus or be productive if your mind is in a fog.


Sometimes it feels impossible to get more energy. Even if you sleep a solid 8 hours, you wake up groggy. And you wake up even groggier the more you sleep.


So how can you have more energy so you can take your life to new heights?  


  1. Sleep the right way.  

Seems obvious, right? If you’re tired, you sleep. But there are specific ways you want to sleep to optimize the hours you’re closing your eyes and lying in bed.

  • Don’t use electronics two hours before bed. The blue light can interrupt sleep patterns. If you need to, consider investing in blue light blocker glasses.
  • Try not to eat after 7 pm. Your body uses up energy in order to digest. If you’re awake, you’re using up energy that allows the digestion process to happen quicker.  But if you’re sleeping, your body is too focused on the process of digestion that it can’t get a full rest.
  • Block out all noise and lights. Even if the light doesn’t bother you, it can signal your brain that it’s “waking time” and you won’t get the same quality of sleep as a completely dark room.  
  • Take a 20-minute cat nap in the middle of the day to refuel. Any less and you won’t feel energized, but any more and you’ll start to enter into REM sleep which will make you even more tired.

  1. Watch your nutrition.

Remember that food is fuel. What you put into your body will either hurt or help you. So make sure that you are feeding your body with all the good stuff it needs to maintain high energy levels.

Healthy fats are a good source of energy. This includes avocados, nuts, and olive oil. Adding these to your lunch or snack can give you an instant boost to kick it into gear the rest of the day.


  1. Drink water.

The majority of Americans are dehydrated. Even mild dehydration can lead to massive fatigue. Our bodies and cells are made up almost entirely of water. If we don’t have enough of that water, our bodily functions start to slow down. Our cells can’t work appropriately without adequate water, so simple processes can’t occur. This puts your cells in overdrive to accomplish everyday tasks, which can make you even more tired and fatigued.

 

  1. Change your mindset.

Are you really fatigued… or is your brain just tired? Oftentimes we feel tired when we’re actually bored, stressed, or confused.

What happens if you change your focus to something that excites you? What if you suddenly started having a dance party with your best friends? Would you suddenly get a burst of energy?

Change your physiology. Get up out of your seat and move. Dance around the room. Go for a walk. Do something that gets you active. By physically exerting your body, you “wake up” the energy in your cells so you can start tapping into those reserves as well.

You should also change your mindset. Take a few deep breaths and think about everything you’re grateful for. Think of goals that make you excited. Changing your frame of life can remind you why energy is so important, and you’ll suddenly be ready to take on the rest of the day!
